Social Responsibility
As 4th generation coffee farmers, Zalmari Estates’ families settled in the Cachi community over a century ago. Zalmari Estate is committed to work actively addressing social and environmental issues responsibly within the coffee industry, but is also committed to Cachi’s people’s needs. As IWCA members, Zalmari naturally is particularly invested in meeting the needs of women in coffee.
Last May, Zalmari Estate launched a Corporate Social Responsibility Plan. It began with workshops designed to impart techniques for the creation of objects and jewelry promoting the culture of recycling as a creative and artistic tool, but also to promote alternative sources of income for the rural women in the coffee-growing regions of the Alliance of Women in Coffee. In addition to this training, an awareness of care for the environment is also targeted.
Other phases of the CSR Plan include developing recycling and environmental education within schools of the community and a Day Care Center for children of Zalmari Estates’ coffee pickers.
